Four young Cottsway residents have taken part in a fantastic work experience opportunity in the summer holidays. The teenagers spent a week with solicitors Blake Morgan at their Oxford offices. Now in its 6th year, ‘Growing Ambitions’ is open to young people aged 16-18 years old, who live in social housing.
The scheme aims to introduce young people to law and to break down some of the barriers to a career in the legal profession. Participants were at Blake Morgan for a week. They shadowed solicitors, took part in workshops, enjoyed a visit from a barrister, took part in debates, a mock trial and went on a trip to the Law faculty at Oxford Brookes University and to the Oxford Combined Court.
Among this year’s students were Ellie from North Leigh, Abir from Cheltenham, Isaak from Chipping Norton and Katie from Witney. They were joined on the scheme by others from Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust in Buckinghamshire. We’ll be running the scheme again in July 2018 so please get in touch if you are interested in finding out more.
